Who among us doesn't do it: crossing our legs in a formal or cozy conversation atmosphere and leaning back in our armchair?! What feels better when sitting than exactly that! But is it also healthy?

Not at all! When you cross one leg over the other, the blood vessels are compressed and blood circulation is impaired. This can lead to varicose veins or promote thrombosis. Since the nerves are also pinched in the process, the well-known phenomenon of "legs falling asleep" occurs after a while.

However, crossed legs pose the greatest risk to the pelvis and spine. Due to the posture of the legs, the pelvis gets into a misalignment. Ultimately, the pelvis is crooked and the spine is curved.

It is best to keep both legs next to each other in a certain balance and to move them from time to time. Your feet will gladly rest on a footstool or stool from time to time.

This supports blood circulation in the legs. If you do want to cross your legs occasionally, never do so for longer than 30 minutes. After this time, stand up and take a few steps.

If you catch yourself with crossed legs, make sure to switch often enough: first the right over the left, then the left leg over the right. For a similar period of time each. This way, potential postural damage to the pelvis and spine is somewhat balanced out and kept in equilibrium.
